Edwin Thornton

Monticello defensive back Edwin McDonald Thornton has signed a National Letter of Intent Wednesday committing to play football at Arkansas Tech.

A 5’10”, 170-pound defensive back with 4.5 speed in the 40-yard dash, Thornton was a First-Team All-Conference pick.

As a senior, he had 37 tackles, five for a loss, 14 assists, three pass break-ups, and an interception. He was a member of the 2009 Class 5A State Championship team and helped lead the Billies to a 7-3-1 record and a trip to the playoffs in 2011.

“I’m really exited for Edwin,” said Monticello Coach Greg Tiner. “He is a great young man that will represent the school and the community in the right way.”

Thornton is the son of Aimee Thornton and Antoine Brown and the grandson of Georgia Stanford.

He attends Pauline Baptist Church and The Revival Center Church of God in Monticello.
