Jo Ann Trotter has withdrawn from the Monticello mayor’s race and is throwing her support behind Joe Rogers.
“At this point, I have made the decision to withdraw from the mayoral race in November, and I will stand behind and support Mayor Joe Rogers,” Trotter wrote in an August 1 letter to her supporters. “Please give Mayor Rogers the opportunity to serve you again in a much bigger and better capacity.”
Trotter, an independent, finished third in a 5-way race behind Rogers, also an independent, and the Democratic nominee Zack Tucker in a June 24 special election to elect a mayor to complete the term of the late Allen Maxwell. The term ends on December 31.
Sonny Thornhill, an independent, finished fourth and Dave Nugent, the Republican nominee, finished fifth. Rogers ultimately won a runoff with Tucker and is currently serving as mayor.
Rogers and Tucker, along with Thornhill and Nugent, will also be on the ballot in November. They are all seeking the upcoming four-year term which begins on January 1.
