Police arrested two suspects in one of the two weekend shootings at Dumas and developed a “person of interest” in the other. The shootings were not related to the Hoodnic 2012 festivities, according to police.
Latrel Phipps, 25, of Pine Bluff, and Tim Spivey, 26, of Conway were both arrested in connection with the first shooting which occurred during a confrontation in the area of Choctaw and Maple streets. Phipps allegedly fired into a crowd of people, injuring Aaron Dennis, 20, of Mitchellville, and Marius Johnson, 20, of Dermott.
Phipps likely will be charged with two counts of first-degree battery, and being a felon in possession of a firearm. His bond was set at $50,000. Spivey likely will be charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm. His bond was set at $1,000.
The second shooting took place at 2:30 a.m. Sunday during an altercation after a private party. Laron Mason, 23, of Gould, was injured in that shooting.
Police have not made an arrest in the second shooting but do have a “person of interest”. Police declined to disclose the name of the suspect.
While the shootings are widely rumored to be connected to the weekend Hoodnic 2012 car event at Dumas, Dumas Police investigator Chuck Blevins said the shootings are not related to the car show. The shootings occurred at private parties, not at the Hoodnic activities, he said.
