Two scouts from Monticello Boy Scout Troop 67 were awarded their Eagle Scout rank Saturday at the Boy Scouts of America DeSoto Area Council 98th Anniversary Recognition Banquet at Camp DeSoto.

Lucas Babst and Johnny McClendon, pictured above, received their Eagle Scout plaques at the banquet.

In addition to the Eagle Scout awardees, Caleb Whitehurst was received the district Award of Merit for the Three Rivers District. This award is given to a scouter who renders service of an outstanding nature at the district level.

“Mr. Whitehurst is a valuable Scouter to both Cub Scout Pack 69 and Troop 67 of Monticello,” a scout spokesperson said. “He always says yes when asked to assist or train a merit badge and provides a great service to our district programs.”

John McClendon received the Eagle Class honoree award for his continued dedication to the De Soto Council and Monticello Troop 67. Since 1972 Boy Scouts of America have named an Eagle Class in a district after an adult in honor of their service to scouting.

“Mr. McClendon has been a part of the Scouting program as an adult since the mid 1990s. He has served in all positions of the Troop Committee and is now an assistant scoutmaster for Monticello Troop 67. He has worked with the Friends of Scouting Campaign since 2002 and is committed to the growth of the Scouting program in Southeast Arkansas,” the spokesperson said. “Congratulations to Troop 67 Eagle Scouts for this year and to two great adult supporters.”
