UAM Athletes of the Year

Ben Agredano, Brittany Eitel, Beth Johnson, Tyler Caruthers and Greg Ogletree

The University of Arkansas at Monticello Department of Athletics presented its annual athlete and scholar athlete of the year awards on Monday night at the Gibson Center University Center. The award recipients were:

Male Athlete of the Year: Ben Agredano, Senior, Baseball
Agredano leads UAM with a .388 batting average, .541 slugging percentage, 40 runs scored, 71 total hits, 46 runs batted in, two triples, 99 total bases and 207 total plate appearances. Agredan is one of only two roster members to have played and started in every game during the 2014 season. He ranks second in the Great American Conference in batting average and leads the league in hits. He was an All-GAC Second Team selection for the 2013 season.

Male Scholar Athlete of the Year: Tyler Caruthers, Senior, Baseball
Caruthers has 3.41 GPA in Health and Physical Education. He ranks second on the team with a .320 batting average in 33 games played this season. He has 32 hits, six doubles, one homerun and 19 runs batted in and ranks second on the team in stolen bases. Caruthers is a member of the GAC All-Academic Team and is was involved with UAM Student-Athlete Advisory Committee fundraisers throughout the year benefiting the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

Female Athlete of the Year: Beth Johnson, Senior Softball
Johnson is a 4-year starter for the Cotton Blossoms in centerfield. She has a .344 batting average in 54 games with 56 hits, 11 doubles, a team-high six triples, seven homeruns, 33 runs batted in and a slugging percentage of .613. Johnson ranks in the top 10 of seven different GAC softball statistical categories, including leading the league in triples. She is team co-captain, president of the UAM Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, a member of UAM’s Alpha Chi Honor Society, a three-time all-conference selection and was selected to a career total of four all-academic teams.

Female Scholar Athlete of the Year: Brittany Eitel, Senior, Softball
Eitel has a 3.9 GPA in accounting and is a four-year starter for the Cotton Blossoms. This season, she had 36 hits, seven doubles, one triple, five homeruns, 25 runs batted in and has drawn 19 walks. She is a two-time all-conference selection, GAC All-Academic Team, 2011-13, a D2 Athletic Directors Association Academic Achievement Award recipient, a 2012 National Fastpitch Coaches Association Scholar Athlete Award recipient, a member of UAM’s Alpha Chi Honor Society, team co-captain and president of UAM’s student chapter of the Institute of Management Accountants.

Green and White Excellence Award: Greg Ogletree, Senior, Men’s Cross Country
Ogletree is a letter winner for the men’s cross country team, involved in the UAM Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and was selected as the person that best embodies the qualities of a true student-athlete with athletic participation and involvement with other entities within athletics and the entire university.

In addition to the five major awards, all student-athletes with a 3.5 cumulative grade point average or better were recognized.
