The University of Arkansas at Monticello baseball team will play 33 Great American Conference games including 15 at Weevils Field to highlight a shortened 2021 schedule as unveiled by head coach John Harvey on Tuesday.

“Because of COVID, our schedule has been condensed to 40 games, but we feel fortunate to be able to play,” Harvey said. “We are hopefully optimistic that we will be able to play all 40.”

For the first time since 2018, the Weevils will open play at home against a familiar foe, Delta State, on  opening weekend, Feb. 12-13. The Weevils were visiting Delta State when sports halted in 2020.

“We are looking forward to being back on the field again,” Harvey said. “When we step on the field to open with Delta State, it will have been 11 long months since we were at Delta State and got the news that our season was being shut down.”

The Weevils will open conference play the following weekend, Feb; 10-20 when they travel to Weatherford, Oklahoma for a three game series with Southwestern Oklahoma State.

In non-conference competition, UAM will split a pair of home-and-home sets. Those include games at Weevils Field against the University of Arkansas – Fort Smith on Feb. 23 and the University of Texas at Tyler on March 23. The Weevils will travel to UAFS on April 6 and UT-Tyler on April 13.

The home GAC slate for UAM will include series against Northwestern Oklahoma State (Feb. 26-27), Arkansas Tech (March 12-13), Southeastern Oklahoma State (March 19-20), Ouachita Baptist (April 9-10) and Southern Nazarene (April 16-17).

After the opening conference series against SWOSU, the Weevils will travel to league foes Henderson State (March 5-6), East Central Oklahoma (March 26-27), Harding (April 2-3), Oklahoma Baptist (April 23-24) and Southern Arkansas (April 30-May 1).

The Weevils will also play 12 double-headers to squeeze in all 33 GAC matchups in the condensed 2021 regular season schedule.
