The University of Arkansas at Monticello baseball team has been selected as an at large No. 5 seed in next week’s NCAA Division II Central Regional Tournament.
The tournament will be held at Arkansas Tech University in Russellville, Arkansas.
This is UAM’s first-ever regional postseason appearance since joining the NCAA Division II prior to the 1996 season. The Weevils enter the event with an overall record of 36-15, the most successful season in program history.
UAM is among three teams from the Great American Conference to earn a spot in the regional bracket. Arkansas Tech has been selected as the top seed and will host the six-team, double-elimination tournament starting May 15 and ending on May 18. All games of the tournament will be played at Tech Field on the ATU campus.
Southern Arkansas earned the No. 2 seed in the event after getting the GAC’s automatic bid following its conference tournament championship last week in Enid, Oklahoma. UAM rounds out the GAC field at No. 5.
Minnesota State-Mankato is one of two Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference teams in the bracket. MSU-Mankato earned an at large berth as the No. 3 seed. Emporia State, an automatic qualifier and only representative of the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association, checks in as the No. 4 seed.
Augustana, the NSIC tournament champion and automatic qualifier, earned the final spot at No. 6.
UAM opens up against a familiar foe, taking on No. 2 seed Southern Arkansas on May 15 at 3:30 p.m. in the opening round.
It will be the sixth time UAM and SAU have met on the diamond this season. SAU has a 3-2 edge in the season series.
No. 1 Arkansas Tech opens up against No. 6 Augustana, and No. 3 Minnesota State-Mankato faces off against No. 4 seed Emporia.
