The University of Arkansas at Monticello baseball team has been picked fourth in the 2022 Great American Conference Preseason Coaches Poll.

Arkansas-Monticello concluded the 2021 season with a 22-18 record and a 19-14 finish in the GAC. The Weevils were eliminated by Arkansas Tech in the Semifinals of the 2021 GAC Tournament.

Head Coach John Harvey is returning for his 12th season and Assistant Coach-Recruiting Coordinator Mark Jelks is back for his eighth season.

UAM returns four of their top hitters from from a squad that scored 282 runs in 40 games. Jordan Johnson, Grant Shepherd, Cade Thompson, and Hudson Hopkins paced the offense hitting at least .290 with 45 hits.

Jordan Johnson hit .378 with 56 hits, 12 home runs, 12 doubles, three triples and 44 RBI. He holds the career RBI record in the GAC and ranks in the top five in league history in home runs, runs scored, hits and doubles.

UAM also brings back its top two starting pitchers. River Hunt posted a 9-0 record with a 3.52 ERA. His .201 batting average against led GAC starting pitchers. Mason Philley’s 90 strikeouts ranked as the second-best total in the conference.

The Weevils open the 2022 season on the road against West Alabama on February 1.
