The University of Arkansas at Monticello baseball team rallied for seven runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, leading to an 11-1, seven-inning win over Henderson State on Sunday to complete a three-game Great American Conference series sweep.
UAM (16-7, 9-3 GAC) struck first on an RBI single from senior left fielder Kevin Fitzpatrick in the bottom of the third inning.
The Weevils added three more in the fifth off no hits, three walks, a hit batter and two HSU fielding errors. UAM had two bases loaded walks in the rally.
In the sixth, UAM rallied for seven runs off six hits and two walks, including two-run doubles from senior first baseman Mitchell Dornblut and junior second baseman Nick Piraino. Senior right fielder Corey Wood had an RBI double to spark the rally. Senior shortstop Evan Comeau ended the rally with his second single of the inning, the second one driving in two runs to put UAM up 11-0.
HSU scored one run off three hits in the seventh to avoid a shutout loss.
Comeau finished 3-for-4 at the plate with three runs scored and two RBI. Fitzpatrick was the only other Weevil with multiple hits, going 2-for-6. Dornblut led UAM in run production with a bases-loaded walk and the two-run double in the sixth.
Sophomore Braden Chambers (5-0) kept his perfect pitching record intact with a complete-game win, allowing one run off six hits with five strikeouts and two walks.
The Weevils are back in action next weekend on the road against Ouachita. More information about that series will be released later in the week.
