University of Arkansas at Monticello men’s basketball player Derylton Hill has been named the Great American Conference Player of the Week for the second time this season after the Weevils posted a 2-0 record last week.
Hill, a junior, averaged 27.0 points, 8.0 rebounds and shot 68 percent from the field going 17-for-25 in UAM’s wins over Southwestern Oklahoma State and Northwestern Oklahoma State. He also tallied two assists, two blocks, and one steal throughout the week.
The Palm Bay, Florida native began the week with a double-double at SWOSU with 25 points, and 10 rebounds, and added one block and one steal in the 79-78 victory on Thursday.
Two days later, Hill guided the Weevil offense against GAC opponent NWOSU, in an 87-81 win in Alva, Oklahoma. Derylton recorded a game-high in total points with 29 on 9-for-13 (69 percent) shooting from the field, and added six rebounds, one assist and one block to his stat-line in the game.
Karim Mawuenyega was selected as the Great American Conference Player of the Week last week for his efforts in the Weevils home victory over No. 23 ranked Delta State.
Mawuenyega, a junior, totaled a season-high 23 points in the win on Sunday, going 7-for-14 from the field and knocked down five total three-pointers in the upset of Delta State.
The New Orleans, Louisiana native also recorded four assists, two steals, one rebound, and finished the day shooting 4-of-4 from the free throw line.
Arkansas-Monticello has also moved up in the Division II Central Region Men’s Basketball Poll with a current record of 6-0 (4-0 GAC) to hold the number seven spot overall in the region after the previous two victories last week.
The Weevils will hit the court next on Saturday, December 10 as UAM will host non-conference opponent Baptist Bible College inside Steelman Field House with tip-off scheduled for 4 p.m.
