The University of Arkansas at Monticello baseball team defeated Southern Arkansas University 15-4 on Saturday in the final GAC regular season match-up of the year.
After dropping the first two games of the 3-game series, Arkansas-Monticello (27-19, 22-11 GAC) scored in the opening inning on a Brady Weiss sacrifice fly to center, which brought home Nick Piraino.
The Weevils added an additional run in the third with an Andres Rios sac fly to left which once again scored Piraino for the 2-0 lead. SAU did scores a run in the bottom half of the inning to cut the deficit in half.
UAM scored in the fourth inning on a two-run Lathan McFadden home run to left center field and a Brian Ray RBI single to right center, pushing the lead to 5-1.
Arkansas-Monticello continued to flex its muscle with a Rios solo home run the next inning, followed by a Drake Rowton two-run blast to give UAM the 8-1 advantage.
UAM capped off the scoring in the top of the seventh after a three-run home run by Rowton and a grand slam from Weiss, giving UAM the 15-2 lead and ultimately winning the game 15-4 in seven innings.
Braden Chambers (W, 7-3) earned the victory in the game after pitching 6.0 innings, allowing just one earned run and totaled five strikeouts in the contest.
Both Rowton and Weiss finished the day with five runs batted in each with Drake producing two home runs and three runs scored.
The Weevils will also begin post-season play hosting Southeastern Oklahoma State in the opening round of the GAC Tournament at Weevils Field.
