University of Arkansas at Monticello junior pitcher Ben Aldridge turned in a four-inning save to give the Weevils a 6-2 win over No. 6 Southern Arkansas on Saturday in the QuikTrip Classic.

Aldridge faced only two batters over the minimum in the final four innings, while the Weevils (30) scored two runs in the sixth, two in the seventh and one in the ninth to remain undefeated to start the year.

The Tupelo, Mississippi native relieved senior starter Austin Braddock (10), who earned the win after giving up only two runs off two hits with five strikeouts and one walk in the first five innings.

The Muleriders (42) began the scoring with a solo homerun by Mason Mallard in the bottom of the second. He hit another solo blast in the fifth to account for SAU’s only runs in the game.

UAM’s first run came in the top of the fourth on an RBI single from Mitchell Dornblut. That hit tied the game at 1all. Mallard’s second homerun gave SAU the lead for the final time as UAM regained the lead in the top of the sixth, starting with an RBI single by redshirt freshman Brian Ray. Junior Evan Comeau later scored on a passed ball. Comeau reached on a walk earlier in the inning.

The Weevils cushioned their lead in the seventh with a pair of RBI doubles, first from Dornblut and later from sophomore C.J. Womack.

Junior Nick Cerda finalized the scoring in the top of the ninth with an sacrifice fly to score junior Corey Wood, who tripled to lead off the inning.

UAM is back in action in the QuikTrip Classic on Sunday against Nebraska Kearney. First pitch is set for 10 a.m.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″][/vc_column][/vc_row]
