The University of Arkansas at Monticello baseball team collected its fifth straight Great American Conference series victory, its second straight series sweep and extended its streak to eight straight wins in a pair of road victories over Ouachita Baptist on Saturday by final scores of 9-1 and 6-5.

Sophomore Braden Chambers (6-0) remained unbeaten and earned his third consecutive complete victory in Saturday’s first game, allowing just one run off two hits with five strikeouts and one walk. He faced only three batters over the minimum.

Chambers’ run support started in the top of the fourth on a sacrifice fly from senior catcher Travis Steinke. UAM (19-7, 12-3 GAC) tacked on three more in the top of the sixth off four hits.

Trailing 4-0, Ouachita (7-21, 4-15 GAC) scored its only run of the game in the bottom of the seventh inning on an RBI single from Victor Draijer.

UAM added two more runs in the eighth and three in the ninth, highlighted by a two-run single from senior first baseman Mitchell Dornblut.

The Weevils had 11 hits in the win, led by senior third baseman Nick Cerda’s 3-for-4 outing. Senior right fielder Corey Wood and Dornblut added two hits each. Dornblut, senior shortstop Evan Comeau and junior second baseman Nick Piraino led the team in run production with two RBI each.

There were a total of four lead changes in the back-and-forth series finale. Ouachita scored one in the first, one in the second and two in the third.

UAM reached the board with one in the second on a sac fly from Cerda and added three more in the third to force a 4-all tie, which held through the regulation seven innings. UAM’s runs in the third came on a two-run double from Wood, followed by an RBI double from Steinke.

After being limited to just two baserunners and one hit in the fourth-seventh innings, the Weevils broke through for two runs in the top of the eighth inning on an RBI double from senior left fielder Kevin Fitzpatrick and a sac fly from Cerda.

Ouachita had back-to-back singles to start the bottom of the eighth, but the Weevils got outs in the next three at bats to limit the Tigers to just one run in the inning.

Sophomore Dawson Moser (1-1) earned his first win of the year by allowing just one run off two hits with two strikeouts and one walk in the final two innings. Relivers Kregg Snook, Gavin Johnston and Chad Bradford all held Ouachita scoreless from the fourth through the seventh innings.

The Weevils will look to extend the winning streak next weekend on the road against Arkansas Tech. More information about that series will be released later in the week.
