The University of Arkansas at Monticello football team was defeated by Great American Conference opponent Harding University at home in the Weevils’ second contest of the year at WCL Cotton Boll Stadium.

Final score in this match-up was 57-7 in favor of the visiting Bisons.

Arkansas-Monticello (1-3, 1-3 GAC) struggled offensively on the night as the Weevils were not able to score until the third quarter on a Cole Sears pass to Jalen Tolliver for a six yard touchdown. Harding (4-0, 4-0 GAC) controlled the pace of much of this match-up as the Bisons held a 36-0 lead at halftime. The HU offensive unit complied a total of 435 yards against the Weevils which ultimately led to the 57-7 victory for the visitors.

Final team statistics on the night saw UAM with 131 total yards compared to the 435 total of Harding. Time of possession was close between the two programs with UAM finishing with 29:41, and Harding with 30:19 on the night. The Bisons ability to create turnovers was a factor in this game as well with HU tallying two interceptions and one fumble recovery, compared to the Weevils one fumble recovery.

“Harding is a really good football team, the type of team that you can’t make any mistakes against,” head coach Hud Jackson said after the game. “We will bounce back, our players will work hard to get ready for Oklahoma Baptist as there’s no time to feel sorry for ourselves.”

Leading Arkansas-Monticello in the match-up in the passing game was sophomore Cole Sears who totaled 101 yards through the air, along with one passing touchdown.

Junior Jalen Tolliver led UAM in total catches in the contest with six overall for 19 yards and one touchdown. Senior Koy McFarland led the Weevils in total receiving yards with 45 on the night.

The Weevils will continue home play in week five as they host the Bison of Oklahoma Baptist in a GAC match-up on October 1 with kick-off scheduled for 3 p.m. at WCL Cotton Boll Stadium.
