The University of Arkansas at Monticello golf teams defeated Southern Arkansas in a dual played on Saturday at the Pine Bluff Country Club to retain ownership of the Arkansas Cup traveling trophy.
The final margin was 47 strokes with UAM winning 630-677. The Weevils won 298-307, while the Blossoms won 332-370.
On the women’s side, sophomore Lauren Johnson was the top individual finisher with a score of 79. Junior Pamela Quiatchon finished second at 81, freshman Frida Rydberg finished third at 84, freshman Brianna Dickerson tied for fourth at 88 and sophomore Sammy Rodriguez tied for sixth at 91. Freshman Kelsey Schrimpf played unattached and finished eighth at 92.
SAU’s Jake Etherington was the top individual finisher on the men’s side at 72, followed by all five Weevils in the next five spots. Junior Hunter Smith and junior Theodor Karlsson tied for second at 74, junior Ari Magnusson and junior Billie Trawick tied for fourth at 75, and sophomore Bryan Witmer tied for sixth at 77.
The Weevils are back in action this Monday and Tuesday at the Natural State Classic in Heber Springs. The Blossoms are off until the GAC Championships April 19-21 in Hot Springs.
