UAM Handles HardingThe University of Arkansas at Monticello baseball team beat Harding University at home, in a non-conference match-up by a final score of 8-1 at Weevils Field.

Arkansas-Monticello (7-8, 4-2 GAC) surged ahead of the Bisons of Harding (4-10, 3-3 GAC) in the third inning after a Brian Ray solo home-run to right field gave UAM the early 1-0 advantage.

UAM added two more runs the following inning starting with a Kaleb Reeves double to right, followed by a Geoffery King sacrifice fly to bring home another run, putting the lead out to 3-0. After surrendering a run to the Bisons in the top of the fifth, Ray blasted his second home-run of the day to right field once again, to put the score at 4-1 in favor of the home squad.

The Weevils opened up the scoring margin even more in the bottom of the sixth inning with a King double down the right field line to score one run, followed up by a Lathan McFadden three-run home-run to left field, giving UAM the 8-1 lead.

The combined scoreless relief efforts of Michael Harrison, Drake Streeter, and Ty Jones helped secure Arkansas-Monticello’s fourth straight victory. Jared Libke picked up his second win of the season as well, throwing five innings, and only allowing one run and struck out two.

The Weevils will return to action this weekend as UAM will host Great American Conference opponent Southern Nazarene in a three-game series with game one scheduled for Friday, March 3 at 2:00 p.m at Weevils Field.
