A 50-year reunion of the class of 1961, the presentation of the Alumni Awards for Achievement and Merit, and recognition of six outstanding athletes and coaches highlight homecoming activities at the University of Arkansas at Monticello October 27-29.

The Golden Weevil Reunion and Breakfast for the class of 1961 will be held October 29 at 8:30 a.m. in the Senate Room of the John F. Gibson University Center. All members of the graduating class of ’61 are invited to attend.

UAM will also present Alumni Awards for Achievement and Merit to Dale Burton, an aeronautics engineer and vice president of programs for Northrup Grumman Corporation of Melbourne, Fla.; Randy Risher of Houston, Tex., president and founder of The Risher Companies, which specialize in fitness and wellness; Ginny Chambliss of Rison, the 2010 Arkansas Rural Teacher of the Year; Monticello insurance executive William “Bud” Bulloch, and Dr. Larry Proctor, chief executive officer of B.E.A.M. Preventive Health and Wellness Company of Ruston, La. Monticello businessman P. Q. Gardner will receive the Continuing the Connection Award, presented annually to the individual who best keeps alive the connection between Arkansas A&M and UAM. The awards will be presented at the A&M-UAM Alumni Awards Dinner October 28 at 7 p.m. in the University Center.

The UAM Sports Hall of Fame will induct six new members at a dinner on October 27 at 6:30 p.m. in the University Center. This year’s inductees are record-setting quarterback Cory Allred, former NAIA national decathlon champion Greg Culp, successful high school basketball coach Becky Brown, former head baseball coach and assistant football coach Harold Steelman, 1950s star halfback Russell Bulloch, and the late Tommy Scifres, an all-conference tackle. Frank “Buddy” Carson, Jr., a former member of the “Wandering Weevils” football team in 1940-41, will receive the UAM Spirit Award.
