The University of Arkansas at Monticello men’s basketball team received a season-high 16 total votes in the latest NCAA Division II – NABC Coaches Poll after improving its overall record last week to 8-0 on the year.
Arkansas-Monticello defeated non-conference opponent Carver College at home last week to earn its eighth straight victory, and UAM is also currently ranked fifth overall in the central region in the Division II Central Region Men’s Basketball Poll, sponsored by D2SIDA.
The Weevils currently sit at the top of the GAC as the only remaining undefeated team within the conference. UAM also has has three GAC Players of the Week this season: Derylton Hill (twice) and Karim Mawuenyega.
“This is the highest a UAM men’s basketball team has been rated in a while and we are proud of that,” said head men’s basketball coach Kyle Tolin. “We understand that there is a long way to go. It’s a process and our team understands the importance of the next two months and eighteen more Great American Conference games. It’s neat to get some national recognition especially with how hard our team has work and the commitment they have shown to each other the team and our university.”
UAM will host the Crimson Storm of Southern Nazarene University on January 5 in a GAC match-up inside Steelman Field House with tip-off set for 7:30 p.m.
