The University of Arkansas at Monticello’s Music Theatre Workshop will perform two one-act operas – “Gallantry” by Douglas Moore and Seymour Barab’s “A Game of Chance” November 8-9 at 7:30 p.m. in the Fine Arts Center auditorium. Admission is free and open to the public.
“A Game of Chance” tells the story of three knitters who dream of fame, money, and love. Suddenly, their dreams come true and a happy ending should ensue. The opera teaches, in a humorous way, to be careful for what we wish.
“Gallantry” is a soap opera spoof, which takes place in a hospital set at a TV studio. Set in the days of live television, “Gallantry” includes doctors and nurses, true love and romantic intrigue mixed with live soap commercials and back stage antics.
The cast for “A Game of Chance” includes Kaitlin Tucker of El Dorado, Carrie Ann Savage of Warren, and LaReina Taylor of Bastrop, La. Lead roles in “Gallantry” will be played by Katie King of Warren, Dylan Miles of McGehee, Travon Block of Monticello, and Hayley Coughlin of Conway. Both plays are being conducted by Dr. Kent Skinner, director of choral activities.
