The Music Theatre Workshop at the University of Arkansas at Monticello will present “Little Shop of Horrors” by Howard Ashman and Alan Menken on Friday and Saturday, April 17 and 18, at 7:30 pm in the Fine Arts Center Auditorium. Admission is free and open to the public.

“Little Shop” is the story of hapless florist shop worker Seymour Krelborn and his strange new plant – the Audrey II – that feeds on human blood. Based on the low-budget black comedy film of the same name, the work features a score styled after early Motown and doo-wop music of the 1960’s and includes several well-know tunes such as the title song, “Skidrow”, “Somewhere That’s Green”, and “Suddenly Seymour.”

The cast is led by guest artist and UAM alumnus Gregory Pearson of the Utah Opera singing the role of Audrey II. Other cast members are David Wilson of Sheridan, Kiara Newhouse of McGehee, Robert Webb of Texarkana, Ark., Dylan Cash Miles of McGehee, Carrie Ann Savage of Warren, Chelsea Culp of Henderson, Tex., Shelbi White of Lonoke, Jonathan Cruz of Warren, and Vincent Flieder of Texarkana, Tex.

Dr. Kent Skinner, director of choral activities at UAM, is stage director and Dr. Paul Becker is the musical director.
