The University of Arkansas at Monticello baseball team took two games from Great American Conference opponent Northwestern Oklahoma State Friday afternoon at Weevils Field with final scores of 9-0, and 6-1.

Arkansas-Monticello (13-10, 10-4 GAC) jumped on the board first against the Rangers of NWOSU (8-17, 3-11 GAC) in the third inning of game one with four total runs behind singles from both Alex Smith, and Gentry Ford.

Andres Rios extended that home lead out to 5-0 in the bottom of the fifth with a solo-shot home-run to left field. The Weevils added four additional runs in the bottom of the eighth inning after a Brian Ray single to center, followed by a Guy Halbert home-run down the left field line to put the score at 9-0 in favor of UAM.

Senior Grant Black got the nod in game one throwing a complete game shutout, only allowing four hits and one walk, and totaled nine strikeouts in the match-up.

Game two between these conference foes featured UAM on the board first once again after a costly error allowed the Weevils to see one cross the plate. Sean Wagner went on to drive in the second run for Arkansas-Monticello after a sacrifice fly to center field gave the Weevils the 2-0 lead.

UAM added three more runs in the bottom of the fifth in the seven inning contest as Brady Weiss sent a ball deep over the right center wall for the two-run home-run, and Rios contributed a sac fly to give Arkansas-Monticello the 6-0 advantage.

Braden Chambers started on the mound in game two for UAM throwing 6.0 total innings to earn his third win of the season, allowing three hits, one earned run, and struck out seven batters. Michael Harrison provided an inning of relief to seal the game off for the Weevils.

The Weevils return to the field tomorrow, Saturday, March 18, in the series finale against Northwestern Oklahoma State at Weevils Field with first pitch slated for 1 p.m.
