The University of Arkansas at Monticello baseball team extended its winning streak to six Saturday afternoon, sweeping a 2-game series against GAC opponent Ouachita Baptist.

UAM (23-12, 18-6 GAC) took game one, 6-2, and game two, 5-2.

In the first game, OBU (11-27, 8-16 GAC) led until the bottom of the sixth when Andres Rios and Alex Smith each knocked in multiple runs to give Arkansas-Monticello the 3-2 lead.

The Weevils extended its lead in the seventh inning, taking advantage of wild pitches and passed balls from the Tigers to hold a 5-2 advantage. Brian Ray capped off the scoring in the eighth with a sacrifice fly to right field to put the score at 6-2.

Braden Chambers (W, 5-2) started on the mound for Arkansas-Monticello, throwing 6.1 innings, allowed two earned runs and recording five total strikeouts. Landon McFadden provided 2.2 scoreless innings of relief in the winning effort.

In the second match-up of the day, UAM again saw OBU on the scoreboard first in the opening inning, but a Sean Wagner double down the left field line tied the game at 1-1.

UAM claimed the lead in the bottom of the fourth with a Nick Piraino double down the left field line scoring two runs. A Brian Ray single on the next at-bat brought Piraino across the plate, increasing UAM’s lead to 4-2.

Alex Smith sealed the game in the following inning with a RBI single to shortstop, putting the Weevils lead at 5-2.

Kris Brown (W, 3-3) who got the win, threw a complete game, allowing only one earned run and strucking out three.
