More than 250 rodeo cowboys and cowgirls from 15 colleges and universities will compete at the 2012 Boll Weevil Stampede hosted by the University of Arkansas at Monticello March 29-31.

Competition begins each evening at 7 p.m. at the Drew County Fairgrounds. Admission is $10 for adults, $5 for UAM students with I.D. and children ages 6-12, and free for children 5 and under.

Collegiate rodeo teams expected to participate include UAM, Cossatot Community College of the University of Arkansas, East Mississippi Community College, Michigan State, Mississippi State, Missouri State, Missouri Valley, Murray State, North Arkansas College, Northwest Mississippi Community College, Southern Arkansas, Tennessee-Martin, Three Rivers College, Troy, and West Alabama.

Competition will be held in bull riding, saddle bronc riding, bareback riding, steer wrestling, calf roping, team roping, barrel racing, goat tying, and breakaway roping. Participants will be competing for prize money as well as championship points to qualify for the College National Finals Rodeo in Casper, Wyoming in June.

The Boll Weevil Stampede is being sponsored by Monticello Ambulance, Hensley Land Leveling, and Commercial Bank.
