The women’s rodeo team at the University of Arkansas at Monticello captured a share of first place at the Missouri Valley College Rodeo in Marshall, Missouri last week.

UAM tied host Missouri Valley with a total of 265 points to edge teams from Three Rivers College (235), East Mississippi Community College (230), the University of West Alabama (170), Southern Arkansas University (90), and Murray State University (50).

Abby Searcy of Monticello and Shann Roddenberry of Bristol, Fla., combined to score 145 of UAM’s 265 points in the barrel racing competition. Searcy posted times of 17.1 seconds and 16.81 seconds to score 85 points. Roddenberry had times of 17.07 and 16.93 to add 60 points.

Jesse Haynes of Abingdon, Ill., placed second in breakaway roping to score 120 points, posting times of 3.5 and 4.4 seconds in two rounds of competition.

UAM tied Murray State for eighth place in the men’s competition.

Coty Long of Bonifay, Fla., scored all 60 points for the men’s team in team roping.
