University of Arkansas at Monticello junior men’s golfer Theodor Karlsson turned in the lowest single-round score of any of the 111 participants of Arkansas Tech’s Dave Falconer Classic with a 67 in the second to lead the Weevils in the team’s spring opener.
Karlsson improved 13 strokes from his round one score of 80 to post a 67 in the second round and go from 65th to a tie for 19th in the final results. He ended up finishing just six strokes behind the leader, Henderson State’s Mauricio Lira. It is Karlsson’s second career sub-70 score. He shot a 65 in the first round of the Great American Conference Preview this past September.
As a team, the Weevils improved 17 strokes from their first round score for a 292 in the second round. All 19 teams posted scores of at least 300 points in the first round, but only six stayed above 300 in the second and final round. UAM finished 11th out of 19 teams.
Junior Hunter Smith finished second for UAM and tied for 40th overall with scores of 76 and 75. Junior Ari Magnusson shot a 76 on both days for a tie for 45th. Sophomore Bryan Witmer carded scores of 79 and 74 to tie for 51st. Junior Billie Trawick tied for 71st with scores of 78 and 79.
The Weevils are back in action March 30-31 at the University of West Florida’s Argonaut Invitational in Gulf Breeze.
