The University of Arkansas’ board of trustees this week approved a resolution directing its campuses to develop face mask policies. The resolution said the policies should be in accordance with guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, which has called for indoor masks in areas with high transmission rates of COVID-19.
The action comes less than a week after Circuit Judge Tim Fox issued a preliminary injunction blocking the enforcement of Act 1002, the state’s new law banning mask mandates. The judge said the prohibition violates Arkansas’ constitution. Under the the judge’s order, there can be no enforcement action taken against any school district or charter school that adopts or implements a requirement to use masks.
A number of school districts are adopting mask policies.
