Velma Collins, 93, of Monticello passed away on May 2, 2016.
She was a homemaker and later did private home cleaning. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She also enjoyed being outdoors in her yard gardening.
Mrs. Collins was born on November 29, 1923 and was the daughter of the late Felton Handley, Sr. and Laura (Vincent) Handley.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, G. C. Collins, Sr.; stepmother, Lillian Handley; sisters, Eva Mae Handley, Christine Ridgell and Verdell Collins; a brother, James Henry Handley; a son, Jerry Collins; a son-in-law, Charlie Nolen, and grandchildren, Charles Nolen Jr., David Nolen and Eva Marie Nolen and other relatives.
Survivors include her daughters, Julius Marie Nolen of Monticello, Laura (Charles) Davis, Evelyn “Faye” Collins of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and Crozell “June” (Edward) Lucas and a daughter-in-law Linda Collins of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; sons, Sammy Collins of Montrose, Grover Collins Jr. and Kenneth Collins of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Melvin Collins, William “Earl” Collins and Dewitt Collins (Annette) of Monticello; a sister, Zeophis (James) Lowe of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; three brothers, Felton (Sadie) Handley of Milwaukee, Frederick (Joyce) Handley of El Paso, Texas and Floyd (Ivandell) Handley of Lacey; grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral service will be held on May 9 at 11 a.m. Stephenson-Dearman Chapel in Monticello with burial to follow in Campground Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home one hour prior to service time.
