Victor H. Chapman, Sr., 97, of Monticello, formerly of St. Louis, Missouri, passed away on April 9, 2018, at Belleview Nursing Home in Monticello.
He was born April 7, 1921 in Ottawa, Kansas and was the son of the late John Chapman and Anna Huffslinger Chapman.
He was a retired electrician, a Baptist, United States Army veteran of World War II and a devout Mason and Shriner. He loved the St. Louis Cardinals, loved to dance and was always involved in the Children’s Hospital Shriners Circus in St. Louis. Mr. Chapman would always obtain many tickets to the circus and give them to children.
Other than his parents, Mr. Chapman was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Potashnick Chapman; two brothers, Harry F. Chapman and Harold Chapman; a half brother, Willie Higginbothem; and a half sister, Hallie Witte.
Survivors include one son, Victor Chapman, Jr. (Betty) of Monticello; one daughter Claudia Bratcher (Larry) of Ft. Smith; five grandchildren; two step grandchildren; seventeen great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and one step daughter, Barbara Lenzing (Wayne) of St. Louis, Missouri.
Family visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 11 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Stephenson-Dearman Funeral Home in Monticello.
An entombment ceremony with military and masonic honors will be held on Friday, April 13, at 1:30 p.m. at the Valhalla Mausoleum in St. Louis, Missouri.
