Great American Cleanup

Volunteers are needed to participate in annual spring community improvement event in Drew County and the city of Monticello on May 10.

Sponsored by City of Monticello and Drew County, the cleanup is being held in conjunction with the Keep America Beautiful Great American Cleanup in Arkansas, the annual spring statewide litter pickup campaign promoted by Keep Arkansas Beautiful.

“Litter continues to be a problem in Monticello and Drew County,” said Brian Rodgers, the local coordinator of this year’s cleanup. “It can leave a negative impact on our community for years to come. By participating in this year’s Great American Cleanup in Arkansas, local residents can help make Monticello/Drew County a vibrant community.”

Everyone in Drew County is encouraged to participate in this year’s community improvement effort. Civic and service organizations, church and youth groups, school groups and clubs, scouts, individuals, families, neighborhoods, and businesses can organize cleanup teams and pitch in.

Volunteers within the city of Monticello can sign up by contacting Rodgers at 367-4410. Volunteer outside the city can sign up by contacting Sandra Burnett at the Drew County judge’s office at 460- 6200.

Volunteers can pick up supplies at the Monticello Mini Park on South Main the day of the event, or call for details during sign up.

“Community pride is everyone’s responsibility,” Rodgers said. “We all live in this community together and must work together to keep it clean and green. We do this to maintain our quality of life, to create a place we can all be proud of and to improve our local economy.”
