Walter Lynn French, 71 of Star City, passed away February 5, 2021 at his home.

He was born August 28, 1949 in Star City.

Mr. French was raised in Little Garnett but spent most of his life in Star City. He was a member of Holly Springs Missionary Baptist Church and was a retired welder.

Mr. French was a veteran of the United States Navy, serving from January 15, 1968 to December 20, 1971. He served as Damage Control Firefighter on the Constellation CVA 64, and did three tours in Vietnam and was very proud to serve his country.

Preceding him in death were his parents, James French and Marie Carr Byerly.

Survivors include his wife, Susan Montgomery French of Star City, who he married June 14, 1974; stepfather who raised him, Elmer Byerly of Plantersville; son, Joe (Jessica) French of Pansy; daughter, Hollie French of Star City; two brothers, Jeff (Sue) Byerly of Star City and David (Sandra) Byerly of Texas; two sisters, Brenda Pittman of Pine Bluff and Nancy (Eddie) O’Neill of Star City; three stepsisters, Amanda Huneycutt, Katrina Monroe and Rebecca Housley; five grandchildren, Dylan Rhodes, Destiny Brooks, Matthew Brooks, Breanna French and Tyler French; his special fur-companion, Rosie; and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Monday, February 8, at 2 p.m. at Griffin Funeral Chapel with Bro. Elmer Byerly and Bro. Sherman Rochelle officiating.

Visitation is Monday from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. at the funeral home.

Pallbearers are Marshall Fowler, Gary Montgomery, Chris Pittman, Shane Stephens, David Byerly and Danny Montgomery. Honorary pallbearer is Donald Carr.
