Walter R. Williams, 87, of Crossett, passed away on January 8, 2016 at Stonegate Villa Health & Rehab.
“Herk” Williams served in the National Guard for fifteen years and was a maintenance superintendent for Georgia Pacific Chemical. For many years, he owned several restaurants including Herk’s Fast Food where he served “Herk-A-Burgers” to many students.
He loved baseball and all sports with his children and grandchildren. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Crossett.
Mr. Williams was born on January 19, 1928 at Warren and was the son of the late Arter Lorie and Reecie James Williams.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Robert, Artie, and Jimmy Williams; a half-brother, Henry Williams; two half-sisters, Lily Jenkins, Inez Hilderth and a grandson, Drew Williams.
Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Rachel Ragar Williams; two sons, Richard Carroll Williams (Paula), Walter Steven Williams; one sister, Mary Frances Wheeler, all of Crossett; two grandchildren, Lindsay Dixon (Kyle) of Springdale, Pierce Williams (Lauren) of Russellville, and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Funeral services will be held on January 10 at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church with Bro. Jamie Staley and Pierce Williams officiating. Interment will follow at Oakland Cemetery in Warren under the direction of Jones Funeral Home of Crossett.
