The six through nine hitters in lineup combined for 11 of 19 total hits to lead the University of Arkansas at Monticello baseball team to a 12-6 win over Ouachita Baptist in an elimination game of the Great American Conference Championship Tournament.
The Weevils (35-14) advance to play Harding Monday night at 7 p.m. looking to advance to the final day of the tournament. The win gave UAM its 35th victory of the season, marking a new single-season record set during the 2005 season.
Sophomore Evan Comeau led the Weevils out of the nine hole with a 4-for-5 outing at the plate, including an individual-best four runs batted in. Sohomore Travis Steinke went 3-for-5 out of the six hole, and seniors D’Marco Poindexter each had 2-for-4 games out of the seven and eight spots, respectively.
Senior Ray Johnson went 3-for-5 with three RBI, including a solo homerun in the bottom of the fifth inning. Senior Alex Lang had two hits in the win out of the leadoff spot.
Both teams went scoreless through the first three innings. OBU (26-28) struck first with a single run in the top of the fourth, added three runs in the fifth and scored its final two runs in the sixth. UAM plated two in the fourth, one in the fifth, six in the sixth, and three in the eighth.
Junior Kregg Snook (5-1) earned the victory in relief after keeping OBU scoreless off four hits in the final 3.2 innings. Snook has now been the pitcher of record for the Weevils in the team’s last four victories.
The Weevils rattled OBU’s Davis Ward (10-4) for six runs off seven hits in two innings of relief. Will Wallace led the Tigers with a 4-for-5 outing at the plate. Landon Moore went 3-for-4.
