The University of Arkansas at Monticello baseball team took down GAC opponent Arkansas Tech Saturday afternoon at home by a final score of 3-1, and took the overall series over the Wonder Boys at 2-1.
The Weevils (25-13, 20-7 GAC) scored a run in the bottom of the second inning when Austin Brakebill singled to center field to see senior Alex Smith cross the plate and give UAM a 1-0 lead.
ATU tied the game in the fourth, but UAM answered in the bottom of the fifth inning when senior Nick Piraino singled up the middle to score Smith and Brian Ray followed with sacrifice fly to left field to score Brakebill giving the Weevils the 3-1 edge.
Braden Chambers (W, 6-2) started for UAM throwing a complete game of 9 innings, allowing only one earned run and recording seven strikeouts in the match-up.
Both Brakebill and Smith both recorded a multi-hit day. Brakebill went 3-for-3 with a run and a an RBI. Smith went 2-for-4 and scored one run.
Arkansas-Monticello will be back in action next on Wednesday, April 19 as the Weevils face non-conference foe Delta State in Cleveland, Mississippi. The first pitch is set for 6 p.m.
