The University of Arkansas at Monticello baseball team was voted to finish in a tie for fourth in the Great American Conference in the 2021 preseason coaches poll, the league office announced.
UAM was 8-13 overall and 6-7 in conference play before the season was canceled in 2020 due to COVID-19.
Head coach John Harvey returns for his 11th season leading the charge for the Weevils. Mark Jelks is also back for his seventh season as Harvey’s assistant coach.
The Weevils bring back their top four hitters from a squad that scored 114 runs in only 21 games last season. Jordan Johnson, Cade Thompson, Andrew Piraino and Grant Shepherd paced the offense hitting at least .270 with 20 hits or more when the season prematurely ended.
Several of the top arms for UAM return to the mound this season from a staff that struck out 167 hitters a season ago.
Matt Lundh, Livan Cordova, Ojani Chacon and River Hunt return to the rubber after each picking up at least 20 punch outs in the shortened 2020 season.
The Weevils open the 2021 season hosting Delta State for a three-game series Feb. 12-13.
