The University of Arkansas-Monticello Boll Weevils will be sporting a special logo on their helmets this month to promote breast cancer awareness. The logo, a pink ribbon superimposed by a pink boll weevil, will appear on the football helmets the entire month of October, National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

The national campaign provides a platform for breast cancer charities to raise awareness of the disease and an opportunity to remind women of the importance of early detection and screening.

Besides skin cancer, breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer among U.S. women and the second leading cause of cancer death in women, after lung cancer. Although there’s no sure-fire way to prevent breast cancer, certain lifestyle habits are linked to a lower risk of developing it. Getting regular mammograms and breast exams is also important because these tests can detect breast cancer early, when it is more treatable. For more information about breast cancer, and other forms of cancer, go to the American Cancer Society web site.
