The Monticello City Council appointed Monticello attorney Whit Barton to complete the remainder of the current term of city attorney. Barton replaces Bill Daniels who recently resigned.
While the position is a part-time position, Daniels said it was becoming more difficult to balance the increasing time requirements and demands of the position and his personal interests and private practice.
“The City Attorney’s position simply requires the devotion of more time than I am capable of devoting without adversely impacting other interests,” Daniels wrote in his resignation letter.
Monticello Mayor Allen Maxwell said he is “extremely happy” that Barton was willing to accept the position. Barton has a private practice in Monticello
