Kay Craig Malan, an avid birder in Drew County, spotted a pair of White-tailed Kites just off Sixteenth Section Road in Drew County.

These small hawks are not typically seen in Arkansas but are common in northwest Africa, southern Asia, the East Indies, Arabia, and on west coast of the United States and in parts of Mexico.

After snapping photos of the birds, Malan submitted the photos to whatbird.com for positive identification. The web site confirmed that her birds were indeed White-tailed Kites.
