William Eugene Carr, 85, of Monticello, passed from this life on September 21, 2019 at home and in the presence of his wife of 66 years, Irma Lee Jones Carr, and his surviving children, Delbert L. Carr and wife, Wrenetta, of Monticello, Ladonna Jean Hawkins of Hot Springs Village, and Brenda Carr of Monticello, and numerous grandchildren.
Mr. Carr was born in Dumas on June 27, 1934.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas William and Dora Leona Moorman Carr; his sisters, Lois Grady, Mary Brady, Shelia Dean; and a brother, Thomas Jefferson Carr.
He is survived by his sister, Marzelle Colbert; sister-in-law, Lynn Harvey; and two brothers-in- law, Sam Brady and Charlie Dean; eight grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mr. Carr was seldom called anything but “Gene” his entire life, except for being called “Brother” by his siblings and “Brother Gene” by the many folks that knew him for his strong, steadfast faith that they shared with him in his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. You didn’t have to be around him for long to realize He was totally committed to his Savior and his church, and the life he led as an example to his family and friends for his entire life. His greatest love besides his wife and family was testifying and teaching about his Savior at any time and any place. Gene Carr was ready to meet his Lord and his only regret was that he would be away from”Sug” for a while if he died first because he was rarely away from her while they were married.
He and our mother set an example of what a marriage could be like and others observed the faithfulness and love they shared during their long life together. As a son, husband, father,
grandfather, great grandfather and papaw he set a standard love, compassion and service for his
family that will be remembered and cherished by his family for generations to come.
Now he resides with his family that have preceded him in death, and they are rejoicing with him where he is free of pain at last.
Pallbearers are Justin Witcher, Andy Bryant, Jay Hammock, Sandy Hawkins, Shawn Hawkins, Nathan Pruzaniec and Marcus McDougald. Honorary pallbearer is Herman Norris.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 24, from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. with service following at 11 a.m., both at Griffin Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Terry Norris officiating. Burial will be at Walnut Lake Cemetery.
Memorials may be made in memory of Gene to Tabernacle of Faith, 2525 Hwy 425 N., Monticello, AR 71655.
