He was a 1976 graduate of Crossett High School where he set two track records, and as an adult, played volleyball with the “Sammy Slammers” and “Bad Company” to win the Arkansas State Volleyball Championship.
For over 39 years, Mr. Watson worked for Georgia Pacific, first in the shipping department and later in the storeroom, while serving as an active member of the United Steel Workers Union Local 369, until he retired in 2016.
He was a selfless man who everyone loved and went to for advice, a model employee at work, and a wonderful husband, brother, father, and grandfather. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, calling the hogs, grilling, and watching cooking shows, but most of all, spending time with his grandchildren and his family.
Mr. Watson was born in Camden on January 18, 1958, to the late Travis Hughen, and Iris Allene Brown Watson.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandparents, William Curtis Watson and Eva Edith Hughen.
He is survived by his wife, Blanche Morgan Watson of Crossett; two sons, Daniel Watson and wife, Rosanna, and Chad Watson and wife, April, all of Crossett; one daughter, Jessica Barnum and husband, Mitchell, of Ada, Oklahoma; one sister, Renee Stokes and husband, Ray, of Crossett; seven grandchildren, Addison, Braxton, Annabeth, Makynlee, Kaylin, Morgan, and Brock; along with a host of cousins, nieces, and nephews.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 24 at 2 p.m. at Medders Funeral Home Chapel, 1564 Hwy 52 W, Crossett, with Bro. Keith Boseman officiating. Visitation will be held at the funeral home one hour before the service.
Interment will be at Crossroads Cemetery under the direction of Medders Funeral Home. Pallbearers are Mike Shaw, Darren Brantley, Randy Townley, Ricky Townley, Dennis Holland, and Steven Hamilton. Honorary pallbearers are Stuart Thomas, Coach Bobby Richardson, Mike “Duck” Donaldson, David Jordan, Ricky Taunton, Joe Sivils, and Greg Johnson.
