William R. Barnes, 80, of the Green Hill community, passed away August 19, 2014, at the Drew Memorial Hospital in Monticello.
He was a retired department manager with Burlington Industries with 43 years of service. Mr. Bill was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and brother. He was loved very much by all of his former Burlington Industries employees.
He was a member of Second Baptist Church for 60 years where he served as a deacon for many years, taught the men’s Sunday School class for many years and also served on various church committees.
Mr. Barnes was born on July 26, 1934 in Drew County and was the son of the late Edward A. Barnes and Sally LaFoon Barnes.
He was also preceded in death by a son, Joe Ed Barnes and a daughter-in-law, Niki Barnes.
Survivors include his wife, Mavis Worbington Barnes of Monticello; a son, Richard Barnes of Monticello; a daughter, Karen Barnes of Little Rock; a daughter-in-law, Barbara Barnes of Monticello; three sisters, Janet Lawton of Russellville, Margaret Ann Graves of Monticello and Bernice Waldrip of Forney, Texas; a grandson, Josh Barnes of Monticello; two granddaughters, Jade Beer and husband, Jason of Monticello and Jessica Storm and husband John of Monroe, Louisiana; five great grandchildren, Simon, Sydney, John Michael, Charlee and Macee.
Funeral services will be held August 22 at 10 a.m. at Stephenson Dearman Funeral Home. Burial will follow at the Green Hill Cemetery on Greenhill Road in Drew County. Visitation is August 21 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
