Willie Wesley Averett, 90, of McGehee passed away on December 14, 2017.
He was born December 11, 1927 in Desha County to the late George Washington Averett and Minnie Agnes Stuntson Averett.
Mr. Averett was a cattle farmer. He served in the United States Army National Guard and was a member of the Desha County Fair Board for more 30 years. The livestock barn at the McGehee Fairgrounds was named after him. He enjoyed showing cattle, goats, sheep and livestock to the children at the fair. He loved spending time with his family, friends and church family. He was a member of Tillar Baptist Church.
Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his eight siblings.
Survivors include his wife of 69 years, Velma Bishop Averett of McGehee; sons, Doyle Averett and Damon Averett, both of McGehee; a daughter, Dolores “Dee” Hennington and her husband, Ray of Lake Village; seven grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. on Monday, December 18, at Griffin-Culpepper Funeral Service in McGehee. Funeral services will follow at 2 p.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Jerry Starnes officiating. Burial will follow at Tillar Cemetery.
