Winnie Bussell

Winnie Bussell, 86, of Hamburg, died December 15, 2021, at her sister’s residence.

She was a native and resident of the Trafalgar community outside of Hamburg until 1979 when she moved to Lake Village. She was a resident of Hamburg the past ten years.

Mrs. Bussell was a 1953 graduate of Portland High School and a member of the Egypt Missionary Baptist Church. She worked as an Emergency Medical Technician for 10 years, was a dispatcher and jailor for Arkansas City, McGehee, and Hamburg, before ‌retiring from the Lake Village Police Department in 2009.

Mrs. Bussell was an avid deer hunter and enjoyed riding horses, camping, fishing, crocheting and embroidery.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, John Calvin Bussell, Jr. in 2012; a son, Joseph Parker “J.P.” Bussell in 2010; her daughter-in-law, Sharon Bussell in May of this year; her parents, Willie Rolen and Lorene Bates Streeter; three brothers, Jackie Streeter, Willie B. Streeter and Aubrey Streeter and two sisters, Mary Edith Streeter and Lois Deanda.

She is survived by a son, Johnny C. Bussell of Middleton, Tennessee; a sister, Shirley Tomerlin of Hamburg; two brothers, Scott Streeter of Lake Village and Bobby Streeter of Louisiana; two sisters-in-law, Willie Bussell of Sulphur Springs, Texas and Brenda Bussell of Jacksonville; her special caregiver, Pam Thornton of Hamburg; ten grandchildren, many great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held Friday, December 17, from 9:30 a.m. until 10 a.m. at the Jones-Hartshorn Funeral in Hamburg. Funeral services will follow at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Bro. Richard West will officiate. Burial will be in the Hamburg Cemetery.

Pallbearers are Morris Knight, Mike Bays, Johnny Dewayne Bussell, Patrick Tomerlin, Kevin Bussell, and Dale Streeter. Honorary pallbearers are Randy Streeter and Eddie McGathy.
