A Drew County woman died Wednesday after her vehicle was struck by a Freightliner on U.S. 278, east of Monticello.

Crystal Gibson, 41, of Drew County was traveling west on U.S. 278 in rural Drew County at 1:45 a.m. when an eastbound Freightliner crossed the centerline of the highway while negotiating a curve and struck Gibson’s Ford Expedition, according to an Arkansas State Police preliminary report.

Gibson was taken to a McGehee Hospital where she died, according to the report.

The driver of the Freightliner was not identified in the report.

The weather was rainy and the roadway was wet dry at the time of the crash.

At least 68 people have died as a result of crashes on Arkansas roads so far this year, according to preliminary figures.
