A Louisiana woman was killed in a single-vehicle accident late Thursday afternoon at a highway construction zone on U.S. 425 South in Ashley County.
Georgianna Emfinger, 71, of Monroe, Louisiana was traveling north on U.S. 425 South when the 2004 GMC she was driving left the right side of the highway in a construction zone, traveled up an embankment and became airborne. The vehicle struck a ditch, rolled onto the passenger side before becoming engulfed in flames, according to an Arkansas State Police preliminary accident report.
Emfinger died at the scene of the accident.
The accident occurred Thursday at 5:21 p.m. The weather was clear and the roadway was dry, according to State Police.
At least 512 people have died as a result of accidents on Arkansas roads this year, according to preliminary figures.
