Tenth Judicial District Prosecutor Thomas Deen filed capital murder charges this week against an Ashley County woman suspected in the September 7 beating death of her wheelchair-bound mother.
Jewel “Julie” White, 33, of Portland is alleged to have killed her 59-year-old mother, Teresa Paulette Francis, following an argument at the home she shared with her mother.
Capital murder is a Class Y felony punishable by life in prison without parole or the death penalty.
Ashley County deputies were dispatched to 201 Highway 160 in Portland the afternoon of September 7 where they found Francis’ body, according to State Police spokesman Bill Sadler.
Francis died of blunt force trauma.
