The Wood Avenue Presbyterian Church (Associate Reformed Synod) will host Holy Week Services on March 27, 28, and 29, from 12:30 to 12:45, in the church’s historic sanctuary, located at the corner of West Wood and Church Streets.
On Wednesday and Thursday, organist and choir director James Cathey will present a variety of organ music suitable for the times between Palm Sunday and Easter. His selections will include such pieces as “God Will Take Care of You,” the beloved spiritual “Were You There,” “Midnight in the Garden,” and “An Easter Hymn of Praise.”
On Good Friday, the chancel choir will offer eight seasonal pieces. Reflecting both traditional and contemporary approaches, the program includes such works as “Great Is Now Faithfulness,” “I Will Look to the Hills,” which represents the legacy of psalmody in the church’s tradition, “Open the Gates of the Temple,” The Holy City,” and “Resurrection.”
The Wood Avenue congregation invites to join them for these brief periods of reflection on the jubilation of Palm Sunday, the contemplativeness of Maundy Thursday and Good Friday, and the exaltation of Easter. This concert is free and opened to the public.
