Zula Verle Methvin LaFarra

Zula Verle Methvin LaFarra, 91, of McGehee, died on June 8, 2019

She was a retired Registered Nurse, homemaker, and the widow of William E. (Bill) LaFarra.

Mrs. LaFarra was born on June 18, 1927 to Luther and Flora (McCain) Methvin at Drew in Sunflower County, Mississippi.

She was a graduate of Ruleville High School, in Ruleville, Mississippi and the Leflore Hospital School of Nursing in Greenwood, Mississippi. She served as the Director of Nursing for Leisure Lodge Nursing Home for 22 years, retiring in 1989.

Her hobbies included genealogy research, sewing, quilting, flower gardening, and traveling across the United States, camping with her family. She enjoyed being a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution local chapter in Monticello.

Mrs. LaFarra was a faithful member of First Baptist Church in McGehee, where she served in Sunday school, Training Union, Girls Auxiliary, Vacation Bible School, and Bible Drill.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and two brothers, Reginald and Myron Methvin.

Survivors include three daughters; Janice (Ken) Ramsey of Arkadelphia; Dolores (Keith) Brown of Warren; and Nancy (Les) Abernathy of McGehee; six grandchildren – Amanda (J.D.) Martin of Estero, Florida; Jonathan (Morgan) Wilson of Jonesboro; Matt (Jessica) Ramsey of Maumelle; Perry (Lindsey) Jones of Monticello; Adrienne (Larry Don) Miles of McGehee, and Sarah (Blaine) Starr of Warren; along with five step grandchildren (Brett Abernathy, Natalie Goble, Kari Epperson, Chet and Alex Brown), and 24 great grandchildren. Other survivors include a sister, Anita Nokes of Greenwood, Mississippi and a brother, Glenn Methvin of Owens Crossroads, Alabama, and numerous cousins, nephews, and nieces.

Visitation will be held from Wednesday, June 12, from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church of McGehee. Funeral services will follow at 2 p.m. at the church with Rev. Rick Miller officiating. Burial will be held at McGehee Cemetery. Her grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
